Interview with Kim @ A Girl & A Glue Gun

Congratulations on being the top All-Star Kim!  You did a fantastic job!

1.Tell us a little about you and your blog.

I’m kim. Or AGAAGG (it’s not phlem) it’s my initials…A GIRL AND A GLUE GUN. I’m incredible lazy and never want to type it out…I hot glue most everything even when it should be sewed! I mean I do more than just hot glue but everything is pretty easy. I mean If I can do it so can you…

2. What season are you returning from and what was your favorite theme from that season?

I was on season 4…where I got booted for a stupid $%#@ cake. So edible week was my LEAST favorite…my favorite themes are always upcycled/ recycled…it’s just fun to see what people come up with!

and the stuff i don’t want you to know…ha! my dirty little secrets are staying secrets!!!!

5. Are you a morning or night person?

Night night and night. I’m a grouch in the morning. I literally thought about home schooling my kids so I could sleep in..but then I realized that would totally suck and my kids are horrible so…(and when I say horrible I mean I love them very much but they are 8, 6 and 3…)

6. What is your guilty pleasure?

Sometimes…just sometimes, .I send my kids to bed ridiculously early. I mean the sun goes down…they don’t know the difference…and even if they don’t go to sleep they are still being quiet and not being up in my business. I feel real guilty about it..but soooo much pleasure.

And chocolate.

7. What is your favorite breakfast food?

a bran muffin with whole grain no fat jam and a side of egg whites.
(snort)

A bowl of marshmallow maties. Every morning. Kicks lucky charm’s butt.

8. What is your favorite thing to do (other than crafting)?

WHAT?

There is life after crafting?

I like watching movies with the husband…going to the gym (not)..reading? Okay, usually if I’m not crafting I’m on pinterest looking at everyone else’s crafts. What can I say? I’m addicted to you baby…you’re a hard habit to break…

An All-Star Peacock Finale

So I had a crazy day yesterday.  While I was stopped at a red light (I was the first car on the line) I was looking up the road in front of me and noticed some police lights racing toward me.  As they got closer I noticed that they were cashing a van.  Then I watched as the van over corrected, spun around the flipped sideways onto the curb and slide almost a whole block before it stopped just a few feet in front of me – I totally thought he was going to hit me.  Then guess what?  The guy driving the van jumped out and took off down the street.  The police finally caught him and I gave my statement, but it’s the first time I’ve seen a high speed chase turned car accident turned pursuit on foot.  Little bit scary, but an awesome story now.

Now lets get back on topic shall we :)  It’s the season finale!!  How did it get here so fast?!  Jessica from Running with Scissors had the most votes last week with her Thread Sketches.

I think that is the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen.  I would never have the guts to just “draw” with my sewing machine!  And look how fantastic it looks!

It was such a tight race for 2nd place last week!  But in the end Kim won out.  That means that Mandy from Sugar Bee Crafts will be leaving us this week.

She won’t be leaving empty handed however.  She won a fabulous prize pack including a gift basket of earrings, a necklace, & a bandana dress from Belle Adore, & a $25 gift card to Lily Bella Fabrics.  But make sure you’re following her fabulous blog so you don’t miss any of her crafty goodness.

This season, instead of having the normal “wild card” finale we normally have, I decided to give them a theme.  So the finale this time is all about Peacocks! [Read more...]

Interview with Deidre @ A Craft A Day

1.Tell us a little about you and your blog.

Aside from my most important role in life (motherhood), I am also an artist.  I love sewing, drawing, painting, and of course, quick gratification crafts.  I don’t like to waste time so making something where I can see an end result in a short period of time is often therapy for me.  My blog is a place where I can document the things I create.  It’s a way to inspire myself.

2. What season are you returning from and what was your favorite theme from that season?

I was part of season 3 and I think my favorite theme is a toss up between “teacher gifts” and “Summer time”.  The tote I made for the teacher gifts has been useful for my sons kindergarten teacher at the time.  I love hearing her tell me how she still uses it.  That makes it all worth it.  But I love my play mat from the summer time theme.  It has been so useful for us and I love seeing all of the variations it has inspired other crafters to create.

3. What have you been up to since you last competed on SYTYC?

I have been so consumed with my photography business as of late.  We went from a small company that my husband and I ran to having 4 employees.  It’s excited, stressful and a time sucker.   But I love it.  Unfortunately, it leaves me not as much time to craft which is why I’m excited for this season and being forced to craft again.  I need that distraction right now!

4. What is something that not a lot of people know about you but you WISH more people COULD know?

I love to write and I dream of writing a book in the near future.  some day.

5. Are you a morning or night person?

Night.  It’s quiet and I’m far more productive.

6. What is your guilty pleasure?

Desperate Housewives.  I love that show.  I love watching that as a means of distraction.

7. What is your favorite breakfast food?

Scones.  Any kind.  I just love those with a hot cup of coffee.

8. What is your favorite thing to do (other than crafting)?

Spending time with my kids.  I love how unpredictable life is because of them.

Cottage Side Tables Tutorial

*Tutorial made by Jessica @ Running With Scissors for her win of the Build With Wood challenge of Season 10*

These side tables used the legs and table top from a nesting table, but you could always make those from scratch too.  The tutorial is focused on the green table.

The little yellow table uses the same techniques for the “X”detail, and you can find more tips for the blue herringbone table on my blog HERE.

For these tables I used: [Read more...]

Interview with Shannon @ Shannon Makes Stuff

1.Tell us a little about you and your blog.

My name is Shannon Staker I blog over at Shannon Makes Stuff. My blog is a place where I post my crafts, reviews, food recipes, pretty much anything that I’m interested in at the moment. As far as I go. I am almost turning thirty… and that’s a tough one. I have three boys, I’m expecting my fourth. I should find out pretty soon what it will be, but I’m certain no matter how much I want a girl, it’s going to be another boy:). I have always loved to craft and draw, it’s something that’s in my blood. And thankfully I found a man who puts up with it!

2. What season are you returning from and what was your favorite theme from that season?

I was in the second season, and my favorite theme had to have been RETRO week. Even though I didn’t win that week, I LOVED my record purse that I created!

3. What have you been up to since you last competed on SYTYC?

Oh wow! We’ve moved to three different states. Yack. My husband has graduated and finished school for life. Hurray, we are finally growing up! We have taken a real job and actually get a paycheck. Weird after taking on debt the last ten years! So we are slowly digging ourselves out now! I am expecting a baby!!! Really, so much has changed. EVERYTHING has changed. It’s safe to say. I’m in a much better place this time around!

4. What is something that not a lot of people know about you but you WISH more people COULD know?

Oh dear. Hmm… I really don’t know. That I’m super cool, once you can get me out of my shell. If you meet me in real life, I tend to be really quiet until you get to know me… So just push my buttons… I’m in there… And It will be worth it… I promise. I don’t know why I get so shy…

5. Are you a morning or night person?

NIGHT. Hands down. Drives my husband crazy. I am way more productive and creative at night. It’s like super woman comes out… but lately. I’m neither morning or night… Not even day really. Being sick and pregnant is no fun at all. But, I’m getting there…
6. What is your guilty pleasure? Chocolate Ice Cream. The darker, the better. Yum.

7. What is your favorite breakfast food?

Oh Yuck. I hate breakfast food, pregnant or not. I better go with the boring old Steel Cut Oats with Honey and Milk. It’s really the only thing I’ll eat. I HATE bacon, eggs, pancakes. I hate the smell of them even more!

8. What is your favorite thing to do (other than crafting)?

I love being outdoors. Hiking, Biking, Running. I haven’t been able to do it much because my kids don’t enjoy it and whine and that makes it no fun. But the older they get the better they are getting, so it’s happening more and more, and I have really missed it! I LOVE it!
