-A frame with glass (I got mine from Ikea. They were the only ones who sold a square in the size I wanted).
-spray paint (not needed if you don’t want to change the color of frame).
-contact paper
-scrapbook paper or fabric with a printed pattern you want to use for you design.
-exacto knife
-etching cream ( I used Armour Etch)
-plastic gloves
This is the frame I used, I painted it white.
I used this piece of scrapbook paper for my pattern.
Step 1: I removed my glass from the frame and applied contact paper over the top. I left a small boarder around the outside. Step 2: I lined my scrapbook paper up with the corner and started cutting away the negative space in the pattern with my exato knife. I traced the design with the knife and then peeled it away. The scrapbook paper was about 1/4 of the size of the glass pane. I had to move it around to finish the pattern.
Step 3: Once the pattern was cut from the entire pane, I applied the etching cream. I followed the directions on the bottle, but added 5 extra minutes to the wait time. Make sure you use gloves and don’t rinse your etched glass in a ceramic sink, it will dull the finish.
After rinsing the glass, I dried it, cleaned it with windex and placed it back in it’s frame.
*This was a small intricate design. It took me about five hours to cut away the pattern. I did it over a few days. Using a larger and more simple design would make it quicker and easier.
Ever asked yourself that same question? The ‘Switch It Up’ Pillow gives you several different looks….. so your home can have it all this year.
The pillow features several ‘panels’ that can be interchanged, as fast as your mood changes.
Store the additional ‘panels’ in the zipper compartment in the back.
Take one out, and attach it to the front.
The front has been stitched with the word “SPRINGTIME”
Now you can have the fun ‘Switch It Up’ pillow too. My Panels include a flower, a bumble bee (with a ‘flappy’ wing) and an Easter egg. You can use my patterns or make your own panels for your pillow. Your sure to make a statement with your original pillow.
Craft #2 – Family Tree
I have been wanting a family tree in my home for quite some time! So this was a perfect opportunity for me to create one! I decided to put it in our play room so my children can see it often.
Using fabric was the perfect choice because it is really soft to the touch, visually stunning, and is extremely durable against active kids.
The rolled metal photo frames are small and light weight so they will not be knocked off or broken. And the shine really catches your eye and accentuates the photo’s!
The frames can be hand stamped with tiny letters with the relation of the person on the front so your children can be constantly reminded of who is who.
And the best part is that as your family grows your tree can grow too, just add another frame or two!
Craft #3 -Etched Glass Window
I have a lot of short windows in my home. The kind that are awkward to hang curtains from. Not that I would want curtains anyways. I love having a lot of light. The problem is that I live in the city where all the homes are really close together. I don’t love looking out my windows and straight into my neighbors. I needed something that could give us privacy, but didn’t block the light.
I’ve been looking at stained glass for a while, it’s not in the budget and I was having trouble finding the right colors. That is how I came up this etched window. Using a store bought frame and etching gel I have the perfect window coving for all my trouble spots.
It works great above our coat rack, a place where curtains obviously wouldn’t work.
I love how it hides the ugly view of the apartments next door.
Craft #4 – Argyle Pillows
Who doesn’t love argyle? And if it’s in felt…WOW! I just love pillows and I’m always trying to come up with new and funky pillow designs for my home. I love to embellish them with felt because they look so soft! This pillow came to me one night while I was sleeping and I had so much fun making them! The back of the pillow is envelope style so that you can take them off and change them out to fit your mood!
Here is the winner of the $30 credit to DECOmod Walls…
If you’re Kellie, please let me know!

Ann atDECOmod Wallswants another person to win a $30 creditto her Etsy shop! Here’s a little bit Ann had to say about herself and her shop:
I am a lover of decorating. I like simple and modern. I like the idea of vinyl because it is fast and is a not so permanent solution.
When decorating my kid’s bedrooms, I knew that I wanted some modern graphics painted on their walls, but wanted it done quick. I started to search online for vinyl, but didn’t find what I wanted. I decided I would design my own, and that is how DECOmod Walls was born. Our slogan is “design for the discerning decorator”. We hope to provide some never-been-seen-before vinyl designs and we’d also like to add our modern flair.
Here’s a few of my favorite things they have.
What a great growth chart. My husbands family just has an old 2×4 that they’ve been using since he and his sibling were little. This on is much cuter.
I love these clouds! I would love them in my craft room…when I actually have a room and not a laundry/pantry/craft closet.
I’m a sucker for dandelion puffs.
To enter just go visit her shop DECOmod Walls and choose your favorite item listed. Come back here and leave a comment to let us know what it is! That easy! The winner will be announced Monday!
-Wood Picture Boards -I got mine at Tai Pan Trading Co., they were damaged and 75% off. You could also use a canvas.
- burlap
-scrap fabric
-scissors
- Mod Podge- I used matte, but I think anything you have is fine.
-Permanent marker – to sign name at the end
These are the boards I used. I needed more surface area so I used the back side as my front.
Some of the Fabrics I used: I liked using a heavier fabric, but anything would work. Make sure you have lots of variety. You want the fabrics to work together while still having as many different colors as possible. You don’t want all the fabrics to blend together. I used eight different fabrics.
Step 1: I removed the hanger and stickers from the back of my board. I saved the hanger and placed it on the other side when it was time to hang my pictures. Step 2: I covered the entire board with Mod Podge and layed a piece of burlap, bigger than the board, over the top. Then I used my sharp sewing scissors to cut away the excess burlap till it was straight and flush with the board. If you are using a canvas I would try wrapping the canvas and stapling it to the back instead. Step 3: Cutting the leaves and hands out. I did all the cutting. I didn’t trust my kids with my sharp sewing scissors. I was afraid someone would lose a finger. If your kids are older you might want to let them do this part.
I cut three different sizes of leaves for each pattern.
Tracing and cutting the hands before starting with the Mod Podge, make things easier when everything is covered with goo.
Step 4: Glue everything down.
I helped glue the first four leaves down so my kids had an idea of which direction the leaves should go. Then they took over. They painted the Mod Podge onto the backs of the leaves then placed them were they wanted. I reminded them to cover all the empty spots and to use all the different colors.
Step 5: Once all your leaves are on. They plastered the back of the trunk with Mod Podge and placed it on the picture with the hand in the center of the leaves. You might need to trim some of the trunk so that it is flush with the bottom of the board.
Now they can finish it off by painting over the entire tree with the Mod Podge. It dries clear so don’t worry if it looks a little messy.
The leaves dry stiff and look cute if they start to come off the board.
We finished ours off by each signing their name to a leaf with a permanent marker and adding it in the bottom corner.
Crafting with kids can be so much fun! This craft will let you be extra creative while your children can be creative at the same time and they will both come together to create one amazing toy that you and your kids will treasure forever!
While you cut out, paint, and glue the actual wooden doll.
You and your children can cut out and design the clothes and accessories. And you can use the shaving cream technique together to create a tie-dye look.
And then your children can decorate the other items using foam stickers and crayons.
And it makes a perfect toy and project for on the go. Slide the doll into the first slot in an expanding file folder and behind it you can organize everything they need. Put in crayons, foam stickers, and extra blank clothes according to types; pant, shirts, dresses, shoes, etc.
Whether you have a boy or a girl, this toy and project will keep them entertained and creating for hours! And what a special time to spend creating with them! It’s fun to see what their imaginations come up with! And the best part is the clothes stick to the wooden doll without any adhesive making it super fun, super clean, and super easy to play with!
The winning tutorial will include tips and tricks for cutting with your scroll saw, tips and tricks on tole paining techniques, and how to create the clothes, patterns for the clothes, and the shaving cream technique to create tie-dye clothes. And of course I will include in the tutorial boys clothing and instructions on turning your blank doll into a boy!
….a craft kids can help make? Boy oh boy did my kids have some grand ideas. I let them take the reins and they ran with it! They loved the felt clubhouses that people make to go over their card tables…. however, I didn’t want a card table set up in the house all the time. So we made a compromise.
And the bunk bed club house was born
Enter through the ‘hole’ in the tree, which is made to be level with the bottom bunk.
Complete with a tree that has velcro for apples or flowers….(and for future banana’s and letter’s like the chicka chicka boom boom tree)
There is also a garden with pockets to hold carrots, beets and turnips.
Store your harvest from the garden or tree in the basket….or maybe you’ll want to put flowers in the basket instead. (the basket is open to hold all sorts of goodies)
This project was started and finished within the week…but I think it would make a fun summer vacation project!
There is plenty or tracing, cutting and simple sewing to keep all ages happy.
Each fruit, veggie and flower if stuffed with batting and looks great from the front and back. The main parts of the tree and garden have been satin stitched around the edges, and the flap for the hole is double layered and reinforced….Everything really has been made to top quality, yet can easily be done as a family project!
It’s great that the kids can attach this to the bunk bed, and easily take it down….no need to use every blanket in the house now, not when you have your own bunk bed clubhouse!
This is one of those projects we’ve all done at summer camp at one point, and now it is probably just a dusty old memory. I hope to revive that love you once had for… potato stamping!
It’s so easy that even little hands can do it with some guidance, and the results are beautiful. With some help from my little friend, we made sailboat and Sadie the Scottie Dog stationery, gift wrap and enclosure cards.
What a great way to teach kids the value of writing thank you notes when they get to do it on stationery they proudly made!
And you can bet your little helper will be even more proud to give a gift wrapped in original handmade gift wrap.
I have to be honest. I love my kids. I love crafts. But I hate kid’s crafts. The thing that I hate about them is that five minutes after they have created something, I want to throw it away. I just don’t like the clutter.
I knew I had to come up with something I would treasure instead of trash. My kids and I created these beautiful hand trees. I feel so much joy every time I walk past them.
They are personalized with trunks made from their arm and hand. I really enjoyed spending one on one time with each kid as we put these together.
Mod Podge is the perfect medium for kids crafts. You can’t mess it up. Since it dries clear you can’t see all the mistakes and spills. My kids kept commenting on how much the loved “painting”.
Worthy of being hung in a prominent place my kids are more than happy to show off their handy work. Each tree is different just like my kids.
My daughter LOVES crafts…so when I told her that she got to help me with this week’s project, she was so excited! I wanted to make something that she could use and since we are going on a couple of long road trips this summer, I wanted something she could use in the car. She loves games and loves to talk, so I figured these Tell Me a Tale dice would be perfect! I wanted them all to be about her and the things she loves, so she drew pictures.
And this is how they ended up! Roll them and they have to tell you a tale about whatever pictures come to the top! We’ve already spent hours playing this game together and each tale is different!

Hi! I'm Missy and I'll be your host. “So You Think You’re Crafty” is a head-to-head crafting competition - the first “reality” blog. Every 10 weeks a new group of crafters is selected. Each week the crafters are given a theme and YOU vote for your favorite.
The "I'm Crafty" linky party is where you can link up any project you’ve made because I know you all don’t just think you’re crafty, you are crafty! It doesn’t even have to be a new project or be based on the theme (although that would be super cool). Just join the fun and spread the love!
