*Hey everybody! Season 14 of So You Think You’re Crafty is going to be fantastic. However, it won’t be starting until the New Year – we decided to let the crafters have a little break and family time too . But I have a great schedule of guest posts and shop spotlights lined up from now until then. Have a great Holiday season and see you all after the New Year!*
Hi everyone, glad to be here once again at “So You Think You’re Crafty”. I love to create new things, but I love even more, when i can created something new from something old. I wanted to make something for the holidays, I always make my own ornaments and this time I wanted to make them out of something recycled. I purchased a make up kit and it came with a nice bag, the bag was wrapped on this thin material.
I love working with Viva Decor paints, and I have found several types of paints on-line and decided to make some little ornaments to hang for the holidays. I’ve been making my own ornaments for over 10 years now, and each year I like to add to my collection by making different types. I really enjoy using recycled materials in some of my projects, this one was easy and fun and looks so pretty. I will be making a few more to add to my tree, when I get one since I got rid of my old tree last year.
So first lets show you the materials I used, here is a photo that shows everything I used.
Here is a photo showing my tracing the star on the recycled material, I made a poinsettia flower too, cut four petals twice and also a leaf and a circle for the center of the flower.
For the stars I used the 3D stamp paint in blue and for the flower I used the inka gold paint in red. I love the fact you can use a sponge to add the paint to the material, it’s easy and fast. once dried (and it dries fast) I cut the shapes and began to put together. then I took the paper and pearl pens to add more dimension to the ornaments and finally the glitter in copper was added as little drops to the center of each flower.
I did not use any glue to put the flower together, instead I used small paper clips that I opened and folded in half and made them into brads to keep the flower together, I bend the ends of the paper clip on the back of the flower to be able to used a big paper clip as a hanger. See photos below.
Now for the final results- here are my pretty sparkly ornaments, they are fragile, for this material can tear easy and by using paper clips if you are not careful they will tear up.
I hope you enjoy my project, you are welcome to stop by any time to see what I’m up to over at http://chuy-creativity.blogspot.com/ .
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to all, and Missy, thank you for having me here once again.
