Similasan Review + $100 Visa Gift Card Giveaway

Spring is on its way!

via

I totally love this time of year for two reasons:

1 – I love LOVE when the weather starts to warm up. This is my first Spring living in New England – well, actually it’s my first Spring living anywhere other than the deserts of Utah – and I’m so excited for the explosion of green that I can hardly stand it!

2 – I get to clean and organize my house again. Oh, how I love to organize! I love to look around at my house and see that everything has its place (whether it’s actually in that place or not) and know that there is order in the chaos. Since I just moved a little over a week ago it made the spring cleaning process that much easier. I had a blank slate to work with and I love it. (I finally got to put a bunch of my pins on Pinterest to good use – more on that coming in the next few weeks!)

But these two reasons also contribute to the one major reason I curse this time of year at least once a day – Seasonal Allergies.  Budding plants and disrupted dust are the bane of my existence.  I do not remember a day in my entire life that I haven’t had allergies or taken some sort of medicine for them.  Everyone in my family growing up had allergies too so it wasn’t too big a deal until I got married. My husband, Brad, has never experienced allergies himself or had to live with anyone that had them. He just doesn’t get it!

I have tried everything and very few medications work to my satisfaction, so when I was contacted about reviewing the homeopathic Similasan Nasal Allergy Relief I was excited to put it to the test. I’ve recently decided to try using natural remedies as much as possible for myself and my family to keep rebound effects and reliance to a minimum. I’d rather stimulate my body’s natural abilities to relieve symptoms – especially those associated with my allergies and chronic rhinitis. So the fact that Similasan’s nasal mist is all natural and chemical and preservative free (in fact it’s one of the only available nasal decongestant sprays that is preservative free) really appealed to me.

Want to know another bonus? You can get it at Walgreens or through any major online retailer too. No more lugging that little one to the doctor to get my prescription refilled. I was sent some Similisan Nasal Allergy Relief to review and I gave it a try for a few days and you know what? I loved it! It worked just as well as any of the prescription nasal sprays I have used, and I felt so much better about using it.

Now I can get back to my plant-loving, cleaning & organizing Spring ways in peace.

How about you?  Do you have allergies?  How do you prepare for the Spring season? Tell me about it in the comments for the chance to win a $100 Visa gift card!

  1. I live in Arizona so it’s like Spring all winter long! I usually prepare for spring by trying to do something to fight the weeds in my yard. It makes it look nicer and it helps with the allergies.

  2. I love to get out all the spring decorations for my home and do lots of spring cleaning to lighten and brighten up my house.

I live in S. Florida, so it’s more like summer here all the time, but I get ready for Spring by doing a complete purge of my house: cleaning out the closets and storage spaces, opening windows instead of running the A/C, walking as much as I can instead of driving, and little things like keeping fresh flowers in the house.

  7. I usually don’t get allergy symptoms….until this year. Maybe I’m getting old? Maybe my body changed and I started to get all these allergy symptoms that I’m so not used to! Since spring only lasts about five minutes in the South, there’s not much to get ready for. But I can tell the extreme shifts in temperature really do a number on my sinuses! I have been using a saline inhaler to see if that will help. Too early to tell, but I like “natural” remedies instead of …er… “unnatural” ones. So I’d definitely be willing to give Similasan a try!

My husband has bad allergies and this is “snot-season”. I prepare by washing out the filter in our bedroom window air conditioner since it’s been in the attic all winter and vacuuming under the bed in our room. I also take down the blinds and valances and wash them. I think it really helps keep his allergies in check at night when our room is clean and as dust-free as I can get it. It’s also time to change out our drawers to and put away sweaters and bring out the shorts (there’s not enough drawer space for each season, so we have to rotate).

I love Spring too, puts me in the mind for picnics. I have seasonal allergies all year-round due to the different blooming cycles here in California. I’m taking 3 different antihistamines, a prescription nasal spray and a nasal saline irrigation spray (like a nedi pot but using saline). My tips for managing spring and allergies is to be dedicated in taking your medications, wash your hands and face regularly after being outside, change your clothes when you come inside and get a HEPA filter for your vacuum cleaner. My biggest tip though for the spring is to not let your allergies get you down and interfere with your fun. One allergist told me to stay indoor when it’s windy, do you know how many windy days we have in SF? about 365! So some of their advice, while well-meaning, can really cause you to question why you bother to live outside of a bubble. Just go out and have fun and be careful driving while taking your allergy stuff. Happy Spring!

I have allergies but they don’t seem to recognize a season. I sneeze throughout the year but they aren’t so bad that I can’t handle them with just a small amount of OTC medication. Keeping the dust down and the animals clean certainly helps too.

I am also doing a lot of Spring cleaning/decluttering. Stowing away all of our cold weather clothing that takes up so much room. Cleaning all the windows and mini-blinds so the sun shines in.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

My allergies are very minimal. Don’t really need to use anything for them. That certainly allows me to work outside in my gardens getting ready for planting season.

We make sure the house gets cleaned thoroughly – and get all the dust out of the house.

I have allergies so to prepare for spring I first buy lots of soft tissues!

Yeah, I have allergies :-P Didn’t know what allergies were until I moved! One thing I do to prepare for Spring is to make sure I have plenty of water bottles for our household to encourage more water, which helps with our allergies!
