Lovely Crafty Home’s Favorite Things

by Missy on January 6, 2012

*Hey everybody! Season 10 of So You Think You’re Crafty is going to be the most fantastic one yet. It’s the All Star round so many of you have asked about. We’re having some past favorites and winners going at it again! However, it won’t be starting until the New Year – we decided to let them have a little break and family time too :) (and I’m moving again) . But I have a great schedule of guest posts and shop spotlights lined up from now until then. Have a great Holiday season and see you all after the New Year!*

Hello S.Y.T.Y.C. readers! My name is Rachael, and I write a blog called Lovely Crafty Home. I was so excited when Missy asked me to guest post for her while she and her hubs are on the move. I thought I’d share some of my favorite things with you, Sound Of Music style. These are things I always have on hand, and you’re sure to spot them all over my house! All of these images are linked to my Pinterest boards which share the sources and/or tutorials.

1. Drop Cloth

Need I say more? If you’re not already on this bandwagon, get on now. You won’t find another material as affordable, durable, and texturally awesome for things like curtains, upholstery, table linens, and more.

2. Book Pages

Stop by your local thrift store and pick up some cheap yellow paged books and get your craft on.

3. Paint Swatches

Does it get any better than free? These beauties come in every color of the rainbow and can be used for everything from bunting to coasters.

4. Burlap

It’s earthy, textural, and oh-so-scratchy. While I wouldn’t want it on my face (or my butt!), I certainly want it all over my house.

5. Corks

Eco friendly and dripping (tee hee!) with natural beauty, there are tons of ways to reuse these babies when the wine is oh-vah. And when you have a brother that works at a winery…well, let’s just say I’m always looking for ways to use that endless supply of wine corks.

6. Jute Twine

Is there nothing that can’t be improved by wrapping it with twine? It’s earthy like the burlap, but you can squeeze it into small places.

7. Oil Rubbed Bronze Spray Paint

When in doubt, spray it with Oil Rubbed Bronze. It will turn even the ugliest of things into a bronzed god(dess).

8. Scrapbooking Paper

Speaking of transformative properties…if you can’t find that can of spray paint, you should totally just cover it with scrapbook paper.

9. Brown Paper

Did you think I forgot it? How could I? I covered the entire upstairs floor with it.

10. Yarn

I’m a knitter, but you don’t have to be in order to use this versatile material.

And there you have it folks, my top 10 material choices for your crafting pleasure. I hope you will check out some of the projects and add them to your to-do in 2012 list! And when you’ve finished your projects, feel free to stop by Lovely Crafty Home and link them up at my weekly party :)

Thanks so much Missy for having me!!
