1. Tell us a little about you and your blog.
Hi, my name is Amy. I’ve been happily married to my best friend in the world for the past 10 years and I’m a SAHM of two fabulous (most of the time) kids; Genesis is 7 and Josiah is almost 4. I own a portrait photography business and work from home (around all of our schedules) and in my “spare” time I like to make stuff. I love to upcycle things; my favorite things around the house usually used to be something else. I crochet, sew, scrapbook, cook and bake, and alway have at least one project in progress. My blog, Spicy Tuesday Crafts, is where I post my latest creations and I have an Etsy shop called spicytuesday where I post things now and again. I make a lot of baby/kid stuff for friends and love that they like my work!
2. How and when did you start crafting?
I’ve been crafting since I was a little kid. My mom was always the craft lady at our church’s Vacation Bible School and I loved making all the little throw-away trinkets every year. I finished my first actual scrapbook when I was a junior in high school and have been hooked on scrapbooking since. I learned to sew from my grandma and to crochet from a friend my first year in college. Basically it’s been a life-long thing; my husband teases often that “at least it keeps me off the streets!”
3. How often do you craft?
I usually try to do something crafty every day but life and kids don’t always allow it to happen. And like most crafters, I sometimes run out of creativity and have to take a break. But it’s usually a short one; my days just seem complete when I get to make something.
4. Where do you get your inspiration?
I spend a lot of time checking my favorite blogs and seeing what other people are up to. I keep a file on my computer of ideas to try (all marked with the websites so I can find it again) and go through it often to pick something to try.
5. What is your favorite medium to work in?
I really don’t have a favorite. I usually pick a project and go with it from there. And I really work seasonally, too. In the fall/winter I usually crochet more because I love sitting under the blanket as I work. But in the spring/summer it’s too hot to be under a pile of yarn so I move on to sewing or scrapbooking.
6. What is your guilty pleasure?
I love love love Diet Dr. Pepper. Well, let’s be honest: I love real Dr. Pepper. I’d happily have it injected right into my bloodstream on an hourly basis. But all that sugar really isn’t good so I decided to pretend that Diet Dr. Pepper is just as good. And I’m a really good pretender.
7. What makes you smile?
Everybody usually says “my kids,” and while it’s true that I love my kids dearly, I’d have to say my husband. He’s my best friend and I really love spending time with him. We are both sarcastic and love ridiculousness, and we spend a lot of time cracking each other up.
8. What is your favorite thing to do (other than crafting)?
I love watching movies. I can watch the same movie a zillion times and not get tired of it. (I use the term “watch” loosely; I usually have something playing while I’m crafting just as background noise.) Once I rented a movie (a Jane Austen chick-flick) and watched it 32 times in the 5 days I had it. Every time I watch I see something I didn’t notice before. And I must admit I’ve seen The Princess Bride over 120 times (we lost count over the years).
