1.Tell us a little about you and your blog.
I am a green-minded, thrifty, people pleasing momma of three amazing kiddos. I have the luxury of spending my days at home educating my children (ages 7,5 and 3). We recently moved to Salt Lake City after spending the majority of life in Oregon. My blog has been a hodgepodge of ideas since I started it in 2008. It began as a way to communicate with long distance family and has morphed over time into an update of all the things going on in my head whether they be craft projects, recipes, books I’ve been reading, or just thoughts on a specific topic. Between my kids, their assortment of needs, as well as the needs of all their pets, hanging out with my husband in the evenings, and finding the time to be with friends, my blog often suffers a bit of neglect and my ideas and posts seem to come in sudden bursts every once in a while.
2.How and when did you start crafting?
When my youngest was a baby I remember watching my husband sew a Davy Crockett costume for our son’s Christmas present. Something in me sparked and I started playing with the sewing machine soon after. It took a few days before I could change the bobbin without my husband’s help, but now the sewing machine is all mine. I started out sewing blankets and other little things for baby gifts and for my kids. Then my crafting love began to spread to all sorts of fabric related goodness and somewhere down the line I got ahold of a few boxes worth of coffee sacks and that’s where my love lies now. Thanks to some crafty friends I also enjoy dabbling a bit in painting, embroidery, and a little bit of clothes making. And I’m enjoying trying my hand at a little woodworking lately just to make sure I don’t get bored.
3.How often do you craft?
My crafting is super off and on. Sometimes the kitchen table is hidden for days on end beneath a pile of projects. And then it will be a few weeks before I do anything crafty again. I guess I get my crafty fixes doing projects and schoolwork with the kids, baking, or attempting to build furniture.
4.Where do you get your inspiration?
From things that I need around the house or for the kids. I’m super cheap and hate to spend money on things. So I’m always trying to figure out a way to make the things we need or want to buy inexpensively.
5.What is your favorite medium to work in?
Sewing with repurosed materials. Coffee sacks, upholstery samples, old sheets, and other people’s discarded fabric scraps.
6.What is your guilty pleasure?
chocolate. defenitely.
7.What makes you smile?
My crazy kids.
8.What is your favorite thing to do (other than crafting)?
Reading, running, and of course hanging out with my family.
