Interview with Ashley @ Simply Designing

by Missy on October 20, 2010

1. Tell us a little about you and your blog.

I am an interior designer by profession.  I am NCIDQ Certified and have successfully completed the CA Codes and Regulations Exam.  In addition, I have a Floral Design certification and own my own floral design business.

I have two children: a very active and sweet 4 year little girl and a very sweet and cuddly 7 month old little boy.  I have been married to my wonderful husband for 9.5 years!

In my spare time I like to “create.”

Simply Designing, my blog, is a fun, active blog that is dedicated to providing easy home decor, interior design, floral design, craft, child and baby items, food, seasonal decor and many tutorials for improving the beauty of your home, and your life – SIMPLY!

In addition, I host a weekly Friday link up party.  I keep very busy around there!
2. How and when did you start crafting?

As a small child I remember creating things to sell.  I had great vision.  But my execution was flawed.  I set up my “shop” by the door to my bedroom.  However, I didn’t get a whole lot of foot traffic and my only customer was my mom.
3. How often do you craft?

Mentally, I am crafting 50% of the time: I am always brainstorming, seeking inspiration and planning.  In reality, I am lucky to get a few hours in a week.
4. Where do you get your inspiration?

Everywhere.  I am in interior designer so I get a lot of inspiration from the design and art world.  Also, I get inspiration from my family, other blogs and magazines.
5. What is your favorite medium to work in?

I wouldn’t say I have a preference, but a few mediums and I don’t get along very well.  I try to stay away from those, and I like to experiment with everything else!
6. What is your guilty pleasure?

Chocolate fondue.  Starbuck’s Vanilla Steamer (with whip).  Double Stuff Oreo Cookies.
7. What makes you smile?

My husband and kids.  Friends.  Comments on my blog.  When a project turns out better than expected.  Pedicures.  Above stated guilty pleasures.
8. What is your favorite thing to do (other than crafting)?

Traveling.  Playing with my children and spending time with my husband.  Date night.  Girl’s nights out.  Exercising (Yes, I actually do enjoy it!  Weird, I know.)  Reading.  Designing.  Decorating.  Baking.  Eating said baked goods.
