While walking through the woods today we stumbled upon a Fairy Tea Party!

While walking through the Dollar Store a few days before, I stumbled upon plain wood stools. I immediately knew that I wanted to make something with these..Should I paint them? maybe decoupage?

No! I realized that these were not just stools…

They were meant to be TOADSTOOLS!

Here is how I made them…

Needed:

  • Wood Stool
  • 1/4-1/2 Yard Yard Red Wool Felt (depending on size of your stool)
  • 1/8 Yard White Wool Felt
  • Brown Craft Paint and Brush
  • Staple Gun
  • Wool or Poly Batting

Flip the stool over and measure the fabric. my stool is 10″ in diameter so my fabric is 22′ in diameter.I added 12″ but you can also add more to be safe and trim away the extra.

Next, Cut out the white circles

Sew them onto the red round. I used a blanket stitch on my machine.

This can also be hand sewn for a more handmade look.

Now it is time to assemble! Flip the stool over and with the red round evenly placed, tuck in one side and staple the fabric close to the legs.

Flip the stool back over and begin to stuff the mushroom with the batting.

Next, I stapled the fabric directly across from where I did my first set of staples as to keep the round evenly distributed on the stool.

Continue stapling and stuffing making nice pleats as you go.

When you have done this all of the way around the mushroom it is time to paint the legs.

Now it is time to make some tea and you are ready for your party!

LOVE this! My question is, which dollar store did you find the stools? Dollar Tree? 99 cent store? I’m 9 months pregnant, so any info would save me a trip in this Arizona heat! Thanks so much! :)

I just love these stools! Mushrooms are my favorite, especially the read and white. I can’t wait to make some of these! My children will love them, especially for tea parties. I am also a great crafter, there will be picks up soon of my latest recycled craft – scissor holder/pin cushion. I hope you will stop in sometime to see my brand new blog!

I hate to pick, but wouldn’t it make more since to paint them first?

What a beautiful toad stool! I love tea party. Kids must be so comfortable to sit on those little puffy stools. Very cute and clever idea! I’ve done craft projects and posted on http://www.makemania.com Take a look at mine and feel free to promote your blog!

These are wonderful! I am doing a woodland theme in our baby girl’s nursery. One of these will be perfect for a footstool! (then little chair for her tea party!) Thanks!
